Japanese Woodblock with Laura Boswell (2 day course) - 7th + 8th 2017 Oct 2017 - FULL

Date: 07-Oct-2017

Class Description

Price £ 150

Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October

Over this two day course you can learn the ancient skill of Japanese watercolour woodblock printing. This beautifully subtle and painterly technique is ideal for those wishing to print at home without a press. The course is aimed at everyone, from beginners to printmakers wanting to learn this little-known technique.

Laura will take you through all the stages of making a watercolour woodblock print. Learn to adapt your ideas into a working design, piece out your image onto the blocks and use the traditional Japanese tools to cut wood. You will also use the Japanese system of registering your prints. Learn how to prepare paper, rice paste and paints for printing, and use horsehair brushes and bamboo discs to create your final print.

Trained in Japan, Laura is a printmaker specialising in rural landscape, often working in classical Japanese water based woodblock. She divides her time between printmaking, teaching, writing a monthly page for Artist and Illustrators Magazine and public art. She has work in national collections including the House of Lords print collection.
