Japanese Woodblock with Laura Boswell (2 day course) - 7th and 8th October 17
Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th October
Over this two day course you can learn the ancient skill of Japanese watercolour woodblock printing. This beautifully subtle and painterly technique is ideal for those wishing to print at home without a press. The course is aimed at everyone, from beginners to printmakers wanting to learn this little-known technique.
Laura will take you through all the stages of making a watercolour woodblock print. Learn to adapt your ideas into a working design, piece out your
image onto the blocks and use the traditional Japanese tools to cut wood. You will also use the Japanese system of registering your prints. Learn
how to prepare paper, rice paste and paints for printing, and use horsehair brushes and bamboo discs to create your final print.
Learn more about Laura's work in our Meet the Maker Blog Post!
All you have to bring are any pictures you find inspiring and some enthusiasm. You may also want to bring tubes of your own watercolour paint, although this is not compulsory. All materials and tools will be provided.
